Think About

Everyone has looked up at the clouds on a summer day and noticed images, maybe an animal, a ship or a person’s face. Who hasn’t stared into the coals or soft flames of a campfire or barbecue and imagined seeing something? The remnants of loose tea leaves in a cup or bowl, don’t they look like something? The light reflecting off of a pond or lake, a frozen sheet of ice, the deceptive shadows of dusk or patterns on a wall; all of these can create a fleeting image for a few seconds. Now, imagine holding onto the images you are seeing and trying to interpret them or find meaning in each one. This is the art of scrying. It is all around us and available any time we settle down and focus.

Scrying is as old as our fables, myths, legends and adventure tales. Images abound of ancient seers, witches or wizards with a crystal ball, “mirror mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all?” Scrying is mentioned in religious writings as far back as the 10th century, most notably in an ancient Persian text call Shahnemah. As Christianity rose to power it was outlawed as the “work of the devil.” It is commonplace today. Scrying is as easy to do as daydreaming with one important difference, intention. We often relax our eyes as we get tired and slip into the world of daydreaming. With scrying, we try to enter this state with the idea of seeing, peering, and gazing for the purpose of answering a question, finding a revelation or divining the answer to a riddle, a conundrum or to observe the future.

The tools of scrying are all around us and readily available. The intention now plays a key role. With the well being of Gaia firmly in mind, choose your scrying materials and ask your questions. Perhaps do this outdoors while gazing at the moving clouds, or reflection of sunlight on a lake, pond or bowl of water. In theory, with a softened gaze and something to stare at or into, scrying could play a role in every Gaianic healing session.

Try This

As you think about where to hold a Gaianic healing session, consider doing it in a setting conducive to scrying. Maybe have a mirror available, or a wall with patterns and shadows created by lighting. Drink a cup of loose tea and study the tea leaves. Incorporate scrying playfully at first and as you get comfortable, do it with focus, intention and a specific framework using the different tools available.

Activities

Pay attention to the weather, and when you have the right kind of cloudy day, do some scrying. Pose some questions and look for images in the clouds that reveal insights. Conversely, look at the images in the clouds first and see what thoughts are triggered by them. The more you do this the better you will get at it.

If indoors, notice which walls, curtains, floor tiles or rug patterns lend themselves to opportunities for scrying. Adjust the lighting, add some candles or observe how the natural light of day changes the imagery available for scrying. The more you do this the better you will get at it.

Dripping hot wax into a bowl of water creates a wide range of images, letters and numbers, all open to interpretation of the budding scryer. Ask questions ahead of time or just enjoy your own personal thoughts of the message being sent to you.

Staring into a mirror is the easiest and most popular form of scrying. Relax your eyes as you stare into the mirror. It doesn’t take long for images to appear. Where are they coming from, and what do they mean?

A messy but amazing form of scrying involves pouring a little oil in a dish and rubbing in on your body. The reflective images from the light offers quite a few different and diverse images open to a wide variety of interpretation.

Staring into water brings up images, and dropping pebbles adds ripples, creating delightful variations.
